Top Tips For Lower Back Pain Relief

Some of the more usual causes are likely to be undertaking physical activity in which the body is not used to, such as strenuous gardening or lifting of overly heavy objects. This over-exertion can result in a slipped disk (or a herniated disk). This is a result of twisting, generally while lifting. A slipped disk sounds worse than it probably is. It is merely the occurrence of your spinal bone bulging slightly, and touching on some nerves. Some basic exercises can help to relieve the pain and rectify the slipped disk issue.

Tip 1: Lie on Your Back. Now this may sound simple (and it is!) but it is also highly effective. Lie flat on the floor, with some pillows placed under your head and knees for support. This takes the strain away from your lower back. An alternative is to place a pillow on a chair seat, and rest your feet on the chair, with your back on the floor. It is recommended to stay in this position for around 5-25 minutes each session. This is a great way of resting the back and relieving the pressure off your lower back. You should perform this exercise for no more than 1 to 2 days in a row, getting up and walking around every hour.

Tip 2: Use Heating Pads and/or Ice PacksHeated pads will help to relieve muscle spasm. Use these for 20-30 mins at a time. Ice packs are also a suitable alternative.

Tip 3: Medicines to Reduce SwellingSome medications that assist in reducing swelling are Aspirin and Entrophen. Panadol is also helpful in controlling minor pain while you rest your lower back and recuperate.

Tip 4: Massage for Muscle ReliefMassaging the lower back can help to reduce any inflammation and swelling. And as the muscles relax, circulation is increased and pain often lessens.

If these tips are combined, together with much needed bed rest, your back pain should be gone and your back should be returned to its old self.At this point you may consider practicing some back strengthening exercises, to prevent any future re-occurrence of lower back pain. We will discuss some prevention tips in future articles.Important note: If the lower back pain is persistent for 2-3 weeks, you should consult your family doctor. There is no substitute for professional medical advice.

Simple Steps To Prevent Lower Back Pain

Back pain is one of the topmost problems world over. It might seem that it is just a minor pain in your back, but it is very much capable of throwing ones life out of gear. Some of us have physically demanding jobs that involve working in one posture for long hours. And then when most of us reach home, we are just too tired to do anything except take the remote and watch television until it is dinner time. After dinner it is bedtime, and the day ends. Thats the reason why back pain has got to do more with the lifestyle and wrong postures than with anything else.

The commonest back pain is the lower back pain. In most of the cases, if the back pain has not reached chronic state, it can be entirely done away with. What works best is understanding the causes and taking due care so as to give no reason for your lower back to complain.

The people who lift heavy weights regularly are the ones most susceptible to lower back pain. This is due to the very nature of their work. However, this does not mean that there is no way to avoid it. It can very well be avoided if the weight is lifted properly with your legs bearing the major part of the weight. Do not just stoop and lift the weight. Bend your legs and lower your entire body in a squat, hold the object and rise. This way your back would not strain under the load.

Bad posture is another important reason. Those who slouch are very likely to have lower back problems. Therefore, practice standing erect with your shoulders square. When you sit on a couch, avoid sliding down with your neck resting on the back of the couch. You might find it relaxing but this may cause back problem soon enough.

Stress is considered to be one of the major reasons for back pain. Therefore, try to keep yourself as far away from stress as you can and do not deprive your body of sleep, as that, too, may cause back pain.

Finally, keep your diet healthy avoiding junk food and squeeze in regular exercise in your busy schedule. If you follow the tips above, back pain would soon be a part of your personal history.

Effective Lower Back Pain Treatment

I first recall having back pains in October of 2004. On the outset it was nothing more than a minor irritant after having sat for too long. It is now become much more than that. I am definitely in one of the risk groups for needing lower back pain treatment. My problem is pretty much brought on by my own doing. I am only and I do not exercise nearly as much as I should. Add to this the fact that I work at a desk all day, and you have a recipe for disaster. Intellectually, I probably knew this, but it was easy to ignore the risk signs until it was too late and I needed to get lower back pain treatment myself.

In the beginning I thought I could tackle the problem stretching thoroughly and sleeping on a firm mattress. It actually does help alleviate the pain as the mattress supported my back a little better, and I’m sure that the stretching exercises that I did helped out.

But once again the fault lies with myself because I was never disciplined enough to stick with my exercise regimen in order for it to be effective as a lower back pain treatment. So, you can probably guess what happened next, the back pain just became worse And worse when, one day, I finally did it.

I completely threw out my back and couldn’t move for four days. It was awful. I went to a chiropractor after that, and he straightened me out, but no matter how many lower back pain treatments I received, I still was plagued with pain on a regular basis.

I finally reached the breaking point where I had to do something. I decided that the best lower back pain treatment I could provide myself would be to live a much more healthy lifestyle. I had an uncle who was severely overweight, and was plagued by horrible, persistent health problems which lasted until the day he died. I did not want to suffer the same fate whether it be my heart or my back.

The first thing I did was take up jogging. As you can imagine it was a struggle just to get around the block. I would puff and wheeze, and be sore for days. But I didn’t give up, and soon I could jog for half a mile without stopping. I know that may not sound like much but for me it was quite an accomplishment.

But wouldn’t you know it, I then sprained my ankle and experienced pain in my knees, but by that point, my lower back pain treatment had been a complete success. It was a pretty fair trade-off altogether. Once the new knee cap that they had to install settles, I am going to begin a routine of water aerobics as my new lower back pain treatment. Take it all the pressure off my joints is the ticket. It’s time to get wet.

Spine Surgeons: Providing Back Pain Relief When You Need It Most

An individual usually seeks medical attention for their back pain when
it has reached the point where the pain is no longer bearable. The most
common type of back pain where medical attention is sought is when there
is the presence of lower back pain. When surgery is needed to relieve
back pain, professional spine surgeons educate and assist their patients
with information regarding the options available to them, the risks
involved, and what the possible outcomes of surgery might be. In
addition, qualified spine surgeons will guide their patient through the
entire process of making a sound treatment plan for their back pain.

When an individual suffers from either acute back pain, subacute back
pain, or chronic back pain; the three categories of lower back pain, the
pain usually subsides on its own without the need for surgery. Some
situations call for surgical attention such as when a person experiences
chronic and subacute back pain, which sometimes involve structural
damage. A doctor that focuses on spinal surgery is better equipped in
the area of current surgical techniques than a physician who only
performs spine surgery occasionally.

The beginning therapies used to relieve back pain usually involve
treatments that are non-surgical or conservative methods such as
medication, chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, acupuncture, and
massages. There are also cases where patients are in need of
interventional pain management such as with facet blocks and epidural
steroid injections. Knowledgeable spine surgeons are able to make
rational pain management treatment decisions on a case-by-case basis
based on the patient’s individual needs.

Patients that experience problems with their spine should be provided
with treatment plans that consider all possibilities available to them
for their back pain. Sometimes spinal conditions are challenging to
diagnose and are dependent upon the causes and symptoms of the back
pain. With MRI studies and x-ray images, problems with the structural
makeup of the lower back region can be indicated. It takes the skill and
experience of a knowledgeable spine surgeon starting with a thorough
diagnostic, neurological and physical evaluation plan to help formulate
an effective mode of treatment.

A trained neurosurgeon is the best choice for back pain because they are
specialists that focus on treating the entire spine. These surgeons
have extensive expertise in the area of treating common to complex
spinal disorders. These spinal surgeons know when to provide surgical
conservative treatment, which is the first emphasis in order to delay or
avoid surgery if possible. Non-surgical plans that can encompass
injections, medication, and physical therapy are typically utilized.
Treatments such as core muscle stretching, stretching and related
therapies can lead to improvement but when these therapies are
insufficient to bring about significant pain relief, an experienced
surgeon may make the decision to utilize interventional therapies to
bring about the reduction of swelling and inflammation of the nerves in
order to bring about pain relief.

Seeking medical attention from a surgeon that has extensive knowledge in
the areas of orthopedic and neurosurgical spine care is the best
medicine for lower back pain. The surgeon should first strive to take
every measure to employ non-surgical treatment plans. Upon further
evaluation of the patient conditions when it is the case that
non-surgical plans are not working, an experienced spine surgeon will
used the least invasive and most advanced techniques to bring comfort
and pain relief to the patient. Through experiences that include
complied patient information and clinical information, surgeons who are
dedicated to providing their patients with the best treatment and care
possible for back pain will analyze data and strive to improve the care
for patients.

Seek the care from spine surgeons that have proven results and have a
history of providing patients with top quality outcomes. The surgeon
that will be performing your back surgery should also have qualities
that prove they are consistent; provide treatment that allow patients to
have speedy recoveries, reduced pain, and less need of additional
surgeries. A surgeon that has a dedicated and friendly staff that
provides care that is tailored to your needs in back pain will help you
to a quick and efficient road to healing.

Sciatica Causes and Symptoms – Back Pain Sciatica Treatment That Works

Sciatica is the pain which is related with the area of hip and buttocks and even it continues all the way down the leg.  The condition of sciatica pain is often accompanied by the problem of low back pain which may be more or less painful than the leg pain. In this condition of sciatica, the cause of the pain is the sciatica nerve which travels from the lower back through the buttocks and into the leg. In the condition of true sciatica, herniated lumbar disc compresses one of the contributing roots of the sciatic nerve. This type of lower back pain is not similar to the other causes and condition which results in back pain. Some of the activities like sports, recreational and heavy labor can result into back and leg pain and usually it is misdiagnosed as sciatica.

Some of the most common symptom of true sciatica is posterior thigh, foot pain or lower leg. Sometimes this condition and symptoms may be much worse than accompanying lower back pain. In this condition, usually a patient will experience moderate to severe pain, which starts from buttocks and runs down through the leg or foot. In the condition of true sciatica, the pain is produced and radiates beyond the knee. If the patient is suffering from the problem of leg pain and if he or she has a previous history of lower back pain then in this condition the leg pain becomes worse than the back pain and in some cases it will even disappear completely.

In the condition of long standing history of sciatica, gradually the pain becomes localized to the buttocks and back of the leg. In this condition the patient may suffer from vague aching pain. No specific condition, event or specific motion is associated with the cause of sciatica. Some postures like sitting, standing, sneezing, heavy lifting or even the bowel movement can aggravate the pain. Usually the most comfortable position in this condition is lying down. Some of its rare symptoms are paresthesias, weakness and diminished bowel or bladder function which may accompany the problem of sciatica.

Usually many patients recover from the problem of sciatica spontaneously but some people are in urgent need of medical help. Those people have to offer a course of conservative treatment which includes a long period of rest and also the limitation to certain activities which is accompanied by anti-inflammatory medications. Physical therapy, some exercises and surgery are some other option to recover from this disorder.
