<p>Poor posture and a slouched, slumped back can contribute to a wealth of physical dysfunction and pain in the back, hips, butt, thighs, legs, arms, shoulders, neck, hands, and well&#8230; you get the idea.  In this video, Christie Powell, head of <a href="http://www.lowerbackpain-exercises.com/7daybackpaincure/google" style="color:#0099FF;text-decoration:underline;font-style:italic;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://www.lowerbackpain-exercises.com/7daybackpaincure/google';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">physical therapy</a> at Catz Austin, explains how poor posture can cause low back pain and other issues like carpal tunnel and sciatica.  This video and the rest of the series will give you easy tips and exercises to alleviate pain and discomfort.</p>
<p>Often when we are sitting at the computer, watching TV or movies, playing video games, and driving, we slump into poor posture and a curved spine.  This exerts pressure throughout the entire body and over time will severely weaken the shoulders and back so that sitting correctly becomes uncomfortable.  The only way to improve posture is to begin changing your habits and to try and get in the habit of reminding yourself to sit up straight.  A posture-buddy at work is a great idea so you can keep reminding each other, or you can set a timer or alarm on your desk.</p>
<p>Ron&#8217;s knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, health &amp; fitness and his experience in athletic training, sports &amp; recreation give him a unique style of sports massage.  Ron uses Swedish massage, hydrotherapy, deep tissue, Myofascial release, and trigger point, (ROM) range of motion, stretching, and strength exercises to correct soft tissue dysfunction.  Overuse of injured muscles may often create problems and imbalances in the soft tissues, which may become chronic if ignored.</p>

<p>I wanted to share this very basic exercise with you.  I have many more <a href="http://www.lowerbackpain-exercises.com/7daybackpaincure/google" style="color:#0099FF;text-decoration:underline;font-style:italic;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='http://www.lowerbackpain-exercises.com/7daybackpaincure/google';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">low back pain exercises</a> posted on my website (www.kitchener-chiropractor.com)</p>
<p>The Birddog exercise is essential for activating the muscles of the low back without putting too much stress on the spine.  </p>
<p>To perform the birddog exercise start on your hands and knees in the quadruped position.  To importance to maintain your abdominal brace throughout (flex your abs like your going to get punched).</p>
<p>Slowly extend your leg backwards while maintaining the brace and keeping your back flat.  Hold for 5 seconds and then switch sides.</p>
<p>KEYS TO THE EXERCISE:<br />
- hold the position for 5 seconds<br />
- keep the low back flat<br />
- squeeze your abs throughout the exercise</p>
